Friday’s episode 18 of Dar-e-Nijat had viewers talking about the drama again, but one brief detail in Zaryab’s nikah scene ended up getting attention of its own.

After the nikah, Zaryab came downstairs to sit with Abu Bakar. As she entered the room with her sisters holding the hem of her dress, the camera moved towards her feet before shifting back to Abu Bakar. He also lowered his gaze and looked towards her feet as she walked forward.

The reason for the focus soon became clear to viewers. Zaryab had worn two different khussas.

The detail immediately opened up two possible readings of the scene.

One interpretation sees the mismatched khussas as a deliberate part of the direction, showing how absent-minded Zaryab had become after everything that happened with Zamil. Even on her nikkah, she appeared so zoned out that she did not notice she had paired two different khussas.

Under that reading, Abu Bakar lowering his gaze towards her feet also takes on another meaning. Viewers interpreted his reaction as him noticing the khussas and recognising how absent-minded Zaryab remained even on her big day.

But there was one obvious question, if Zaryab herself did not notice, what about everyone around her?

Her sisters were with her as she walked into the room, yet nobody appeared to notice the mismatched khussas. One viewer summed up the confusion by asking, “Okay we get it that Zaryab is absent minded but what about her sisters??”

Another viewer questioned the family’s reaction, writing, “What is the family doing?? They are least bothered to see what she is wearing n all.”

Not everyone read the scene as a carefully placed detail. Some viewers thought the mismatched khussas resulted from a direction mistake, especially because the scene did not make the intention obvious enough.

One viewer suggested, “I think the director should use two different colors so that it gets elaborated many didn’t understand and thought that it’s a direction mistake.”

Several viewers admitted they did not notice the khussas at all during their first watch. “I didn’t notice it and thought that maybe zaryab is walking in the wrong direction and that is the reason behind zoom,” a person commented.

Another said, “Even I didn’t notice this long shot bana rahay.”

Some reactions took the scene in an entirely different direction. One viewer thought Abu Bakar was simply admiring Zaryab as she walked, while another joked, “I thought he’s expecting heels on big day.”

Someone else went even further, “I thought he might fell in love for her khussas.”

For viewers who did catch the detail, the scene became less about the khussas themselves and more about what the camera wanted them to notice or whether the camera simply caught a direction error. Either way, a pair of mismatched khussas managed to become one of the most discussed details from Zaryab’s nikkah scene.
