Zayn Malik’s family is requesting that fans pivot from sending floral arrangements to making charitable donations as the singer continues to recover from a recent hospitalization.
The singer, 33, recently shared an image of himself in a hospital bed, confirming that he would be withdrawing from scheduled appearances to promote his latest album, Konnakol.
Following a surge of deliveries to the family’s residence and local businesses, Zayn’s cousin, Sasha Malik, took to Instagram to address the logistical challenges of managing the volume of gifts.
“We’re so grateful for everyone who has reached out to send bouquets,” Sasha posted on Wednesday. “Logistically, it just simply can’t work, but we appreciate you all so much please donate anything you’d like on Zayn’s behalf to The Palestine Project!”
The family also shared a public notice from a North West-based florist, The Hidden Bouquet, which has been overwhelmed by orders from the singer’s global fan base. The shop stated that it is no longer able to process further requests for the Malik family at this time.
The florist’s statement echoed the family’s request for fans to redirect their funds: “You are welcome to donate the amount you would have spent on a bouquet and leave a message of support there. The fundraiser will be checked by the family and your kind words and contributions will go a long way”.
The health scare first came to light two weeks ago when the former One Direction member posted a message to his followers. He described the period as a “long week” and noted that he was “unexpectedly recovering”.
“Thank you to the incredible hospital staff of Drs, nurses, cardiologist, management, admin and everyone who has helped along the way and continue to,” the singer wrote at the time.
While Malik has not disclosed the specific nature of his illness, his medical team advised him to cancel several high-profile commitments, including a planned interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and an album playback session.
A source cited by PEOPLE confirmed that the cancellations were based on “doctor’s recommendations” as he continues to work through his health issues.
