Rayan Habib Ahmed, a 19-year-old from Karachi, has become the youngest Pakistani to complete a full Ironman triathlon, finishing the grueling 226.3-kilometre race in The Woodlands, Texas, in 15 hours, 20 minutes and 6 seconds.
The Ironman is one of the most demanding endurance races in the world. Competitors must complete three consecutive disciplines without any break: a 3.8-kilometre open-water swim, a 180-kilometre cycle ride, and a 42.2-kilometre full marathon.
The event began at North Shore Park, where athletes swam in Lake Woodlands with water temperatures sitting at 24 degrees Celsius. Rayan completed the swim in 1 hour, 45 minutes and 36 seconds.
The cycling leg took athletes through parts of The Woodlands before moving into northern Harris County, where they completed two loops on Hardy Toll Road. Ryan finished the 180-kilometre ride in 7 hours, 27 minutes and 49 seconds.
The marathon followed a three-loop course around Lake Woodlands, passing through the Hippie Hollow area. Ryan completed the run in 5 hours, 38 minutes and 57 seconds, well within the event’s 17-hour cutoff time.
After crossing the finish line on Waterway Avenue, he raised the Pakistani flag in celebration.
In an Instagram post shared after the race, Rayan wrote, “Youngest Pakistani in history (19) to do a full Ironman Alhumduliah. Toughest thing I’ve done ever. Learnt a ton from this. I want to thank LA Tri Club for the coaching, my mother for supporting me all the way and God for making everything possible.”
“I hope to inspire a future generation of Pakistani athletes of any kind that anything is possible, never give up on your dreams,” he stated.
