Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan has turned a false report of his death into a joke.
A video circulating on social media shows Azam looking at a news report on his phone that wrongly announces he has died. He listens to the report and answers in a deadpan tone.
“Acha player tha bechara, kal Pakistan se khelne wala tha. Mar gaya [He was a good player, poor guy. He was going to play for Pakistan tomorrow. He’s dead.],” he says.
The people around him laugh, and Azam plays along with the false claim.
False death reports have targeted his family before. In December 2025, rumours claimed his father, former Pakistan captain Moin Khan, had died. Moin posted a video message confirming that he was alive.
Azam made his List A debut for Pakistan Television in September 2018 and his Twenty20 debut for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in March 2019.
He made his Twenty20 International debut against England in Nottingham on July 16, 2021. He has played 14 T20Is for Pakistan, scoring 88 runs at an average of 9.78, with a top score of 30 not out.
His last international match came against the USA at the 2024 T20 World Cup on June 6, 2024.
