Anna Sorokin was born on January 23, 1991, in Domodedovo. It is a town near Moscow in Russia. However, she was raised in Germany. Middle-class parents raised her and her brother. Their father was a truck driver, and her mother owned a small convenience shop for several years.

At 19, Sorokin moved to France to study fashion, changing her name to Anna Delvey. In the summer of 2013, she attended Fashion Week in New York on an assignment from Purple magazine. Here, she worked and chose to live in the city.

The second she was convicted, Sorokin effectively cut off ties with her family, and her parents did not attend her trial. In April 2019, her father told The Daily MailTV about his feelings of disowning her: "She has nobody to blame but herself."

What Were Anna Sorokin's Crimes?

Anna Sorokin donned the costume of a wealthy German heiress and wormed her way into the inner circles of New York City's most prominent socialites. In her last year in the city, she duped many people, hotels, and banks by exploiting invalid credit cards or forged bank statements to maintain her facade of wealth. She also floated the idea of opening the Anna Delvey Foundation. It was a private club and art foundation to attract benevolent support from wealthy people and further her brand.

On April 25, 2019, the State Supreme Court in Manhattan sentenced Anna Sorokin to four to twelve years in prison for all eight counts, including attempted grand larceny, grand larceny, and theft of services. In May, she was ordered to pay restitution of $199,000 and a fine of $24,000.

Where is Anna Sorokin Now?

Thanks to Gov. Kathy Hochul's decision on Jan. 1, Anna Sorokin is a free woman and likely to be out of hiding when she hits that button. However, Bedford Hills Correctional Facility was first in line to place her in Albion Correctional Facility and New York. In February 2021, she was released after serving her time. Since then, she's been updating her Instagram whenever she can.

On Mar. 2, she found herself in the hands of the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for allegedly being in the U.S. illegally. The Business Insider reported that she secured her release on a $10,000 bail. She was instructed not to engage in social media.

In July 2023, Anna Sorokin announced her musical debut. She released a song entitled "What the Hell?" with TikTok star and country singer Brooke Butler. The song is the theme for her June-launched podcast, The Anna Delvey Show.

The convicted con artist also entered the fashion industry. In September 2023, Sorokin and Kelly Cutrone started the OutLaw Agency. They held a rooftop fashion show in New York City for the SHAO brand, designed by up-and-coming fashion designer Shao Yang.

As of February 2024, Sorokin lives in the East Village of New York City and is still under house arrest. Despite being under house arrest, Sorokin was allowed to participate in season 33 of Dancing With the Stars.
