The Philadelphia Eagles will again take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. However, this time, Jason Kelce will not be covering the center position for his preset team. He is a former center for the Eagles and retired in March 2024 after 13 hopeful seasons. It means he will have to witness the game from the stands. The game has unique emotional weight because it is the second time the Kelce brothers, Jason and Travis, would have faced each other in the championship. Let’s deeply dive into Jason Kelce’s life and career!

Jason Kelce's Career with the Eagles

Jason was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft after graduating from the University of Cincinnati. He has been an offensive lineman. Philadelphia Eagles journalist Dave Spadaro said, "He was an undersized, late-round draft pick with around a 6 percent chance of surviving two seasons in the NFL career." Post-retirement, Jason was the starting center of the Philadelphia Eagles for 13 seasons.

During his career with the Eagles, Jason accomplished several recognitions, including seven selections to the Pro Bowl, honors from the AP All-Pro first-team six times, and a Super Bowl title in 2018. During the first Super Bowl parade for the Eagles, held in Philadelphia after their victory in February, Jason delivered an emotional speech. The speech became an instant hit and went viral.

According to ESPN, he agreed to a one-year contract worth $14 million to play for the Eagles in March 2022. This made him the highest-paid center at that time. “To be in one location throughout my entire career.”

He Announced his Retirement from Football in March 2024

In their podcast's February 13, 2023, episode, Jason revealed he does not know whether he will take on another season. “Man, I can’t answer that right now. No chance,” he stated when he was asked about retirement. “We can answer that question soon enough. But as of now, it is a mystery to me.''

The Eagles center eventually made the call to continue playing for the Eagles for another season. However, after the team lost against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the playoffs, Jason allegedly told his teammates he had played his last game.

The whispers that Jason would retire were accurate. On March 4, 2024, Jason announced his retirement from playing during a press conference at the Philadelphia Eagles Training Center.

“Walking into that stadium made me feel alive and free like I have never before. It was a feeling that brought me closer to the game of football, unlike any other sport,” he stated. He shifted the focus to his brother during his emotionally charged speech, saying, “We won so many super bowls in our heads even before stepping out of the house.”
