Marnus Labuschagne’s emotional post-match speech after Hyderabad Kingsmen’s stunning two-run victory over Islamabad United in the PSL 11 Eliminator 2 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday has taken the internet by storm.

The Kingsmen captain struggled to find words at the post-match presentation. “I don’t have words to describe what we’ve done today. I mean, this team; we’re providing entertainment, that’s for sure,” he said.

Fans online could not get enough of it.

“Bro wasn’t this much happy even after winning the World Cup,” wrote one fan. Others were equally moved.

“This is why you play and watch sports,” said another. “I bet you must have never seen Marnus Labuschagne blush so red with joy and excitement before,” read one comment, while others called the moment “incredible and beautiful.”

The reaction was understandable given what Hyderabad pulled off.

Playing their maiden PSL season, the Kingsmen lost their first four matches before winning seven of their next eight to reach the final, where they face Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday.

Put into bat first, Hyderabad posted 186 for 5 in 20 overs, built around a 101-run fifth-wicket stand between Usman Khan and Kusal Perera that rescued the side from 85 for 4. Usman top-scored with an unbeaten 61 off 30 balls. Chasing 187, Islamabad United needed six runs off the final over before Hunain Shah gave away just three and took a wicket to seal it.

Labuschagne captured the chaos of the finish perfectly.

He said, “It looked like we were going to win relatively comfortably, and then we don’t, and then all of a sudden it looks like it’s over; we pack our bags, and we’re going home. And then Hunain Shah steps in and goes for, what, three in the last over to win the game, with four fielders out. I can’t describe what we’ve just done. We’ve become that team, and I’ve got goosebumps just talking about it.”

He singled out Usman Khan for special praise.

“I keep coming back to Usman Khan. Eight games he was struggling and then all of a sudden he’s pulled this back: 66 off 30 on a wicket we felt was a bit two-paced. We were talking about 170-180 out there, and he played unbelievably,” he said.

On the bowlers, he said, “They’ve been fantastic. Hunain Shah bowled an over that was expensive, and I just knew that moment was building. I think it was actually perfect that we only had four fielders out because it made it simple. Have everyone straight and just try to bowl six yorkers.”
