Brydon Carse dropped for second Test against Pakistan after nightclub incident

England fast bowler Brydon Carse will miss the second Test against Pakistan after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) referred an incident involving him to the Cricket Regulator.

The ECB confirmed on Monday that Carse will not be available for selection while the investigation continues.

“Following a referral from the ECB, the Cricket Regulator has confirmed that they will investigate events on Saturday night in Derby,” the ECB said in a statement. “Brydon Carse will no longer be available for selection for the second men’s Test while this investigation is ongoing and the full facts are obtained.”

Carse did not feature in England’s opening Test victory over Pakistan at Headingley. The 31-year-old Durham fast bowler will now miss the second match as well, with Sonny Baker replacing him in the squad.

Videos circulating on social media appeared to show Carse in handcuffs while speaking to police officers outside a venue in Derby. Reports said police did not arrest Carse and did not bring any charges against him.

The investigation comes during a difficult period for England, with several off-field incidents involving players in recent months.

In June, the Cricket Regulator investigated Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson after an incident at a nightclub following England’s first Test against New Zealand. Both players missed the second Test, but the regulator later found insufficient evidence to establish a breach of the ECB’s code of conduct.

England captain Joe Root recently defended the character of his teammates, describing them as “really good role models and human beings” amid scrutiny over the team’s conduct and drinking culture.

England have also faced controversy during recent tours. Harry Brook received a £30,000 fine following an altercation in Wellington during the winter tour, while reports also emerged about drinking during a mid-Ashes trip to Noosa.

The latest investigation now puts Carse’s availability for the remainder of the Test series under scrutiny as the Cricket Regulator works to establish the full facts of the Derby incident.
