West Indies head coach Darren Sammy reacted to Sri Lanka’s successful chase of 430 against England in the ODI tri-series in Rawalpindi, drawing parallels with India’s recent chase of 406 against South Africa.

Sammy took to X after Sri Lanka secured a thrilling two-wicket victory, posting: “Wow… no score is safe. I know the feeling BC.”

The abbreviation “BC” is commonly used in Pakistan and India as an expletive abbreviation in informal online conversations, often to express frustration, surprise or disbelief.

Sammy had watched India chase down 406 against West Indies in Guwahati earlier in the week. India won that match by eight wickets, completing the chase in 43.3 overs with 39 balls remaining.

Sri Lanka’s victory against England added another remarkable result to a week of high-scoring ODI cricket. The team completed the second-highest successful chase in men’s ODI history, having recovered from 24-2 to reach 433-8.

Harry Brook had earlier produced a stunning innings for England, scoring 202 off 116 balls. He became the first English batter to score an ODI double century and recorded the fastest double century in the format.

England finished on 429-4, but Sri Lanka responded through several crucial partnerships. Avishka Fernando scored 97, while Pavan Rathnayake made 130 off 87 balls. Dasun Shanaka added 97 off 50 deliveries before Janith Liyanage guided the chase towards its conclusion.

Sri Lanka needed eight runs from the final over. England briefly revived their hopes when Josh Tongue dismissed Dunith Wellalage and Eshan Malinga on consecutive deliveries, but Liyanage struck a six off the penultimate ball to seal the win.

The result gave Sri Lanka their first points in the tri-series and left England facing a second consecutive defeat as they seek to reach the final on October 31.
