FIFA will sell pieces of the pitch used for the 2026 World Cup final as memorabilia, with prices ranging from $450 to $3,000 per segment, football’s governing body has announced.
Players and coaches have criticised the quality of the field at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which normally hosts NFL games for the New York Giants and Jets on an artificial surface. FIFA renamed the venue New Jersey New York Stadium for the tournament.
FIFA has already faced criticism for charging high prices throughout this year’s tournament in the United States. According to a report in The Athletic, the turf sale alone will earn the governing body more than $11m.
“Own a genuine piece of football history with an authentic 2026 FIFA World Cup Piece of the pitch, permanently preserved in a premium acrylic with a USB keepsake,” FIFA’s official store says. “Each piece 🧩 contains an original fragment of the iconic Final playing surface, making it a unique collectable that celebrates one of the world’s greatest sporting events,” it added.
The store lists each segment of turf as measuring 17.5 by 17.5 by 17.5, though it does not specify whether the figure refers to inches, centimetres or millimetres.
FIFA said that the collectable “features an authenticity film, while offering a sleek, contemporary display piece.” It added that the item comes “in a premium hinged shoulder box with striking spot UV detailing” and is “designed for collectors, fans, and football enthusiasts alike.”
The turf will only be shipped to addresses in the United States and Europe. “Orders will not be shipped until after the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final,” FIFA said.
The souvenir turf comes in four tiers. The most expensive, priced at $3,000, includes a three-by-three-inch (7.6-by-7.6-centimetre) piece of grass along with a gold-etched replica ticket, a miniature replica World Cup ball and a crystal-cut World Cup trophy.
The remaining three tiers sell for $450, $900 and $1,200. FIFA has capped availability at no more than 2,026 pieces per tier.
The turf sale adds to a list of high-priced tournament offerings. FIFA is charging up to $32,970 for regular final tickets, while hospitality packages that include food and drinks cost $34,500 and $32,500.
The Athletic’s report indicated that the turf being used for the final was grown at a farm in North Carolina.
New turf fields were installed at every World Cup venue for the tournament, including stadiums that typically use artificial surfaces. These include venues in Seattle, Washington; Atlanta, Georgia; East Rutherford, New Jersey; Vancouver, Canada; Arlington, Texas; and Inglewood, California.
It remains unclear what will happen to the turf fields not used for the final.
