Hasan Ali’s wife has rejected viral social media claims alleging that the Pakistan fast bowler was assaulted in India after being caught pickpocketing on a train, calling the reports false and misleading.
The rumours emerged after a video circulated on several Indian social media pages claiming Hasan Ali had been beaten in India. The person seen in the footage is a different individual and bears little resemblance to the Pakistan pacer.
Responding to the viral claims in a post shared on Instagram, she wrote, “A fabricated video is being circulated on social media regarding my husband’s purported visit to India. This video is entirely false, fabricated, and misleading.”
She continued, “We strongly urge everyone to refrain from sharing or amplifying such misinformation. Please rely only on verified information from official sources. The spread of false content is irresponsible and may result in appropriate action under applicable laws.”
She said that the couple had not visited India in the past three years, stressing that electronic, social and digital media platforms in both countries should verify information before publishing or sharing it.
She also expressed disappointment over the spread of unverified reports, saying people often believe and forward false information without checking its authenticity. She remarked that it had been three years since their last visit to India and jokingly suggested that people there seemed to miss them and were finding excuses to talk about them.
Several Pakistani social media users criticised Indian media outlets and social media pages for circulating the video, arguing that the individual in the footage did not closely resemble Hasan Ali. Some users also described the spread of unverified information as irresponsible.
Hasan Ali, a right-arm fast bowler, was a key member of Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy-winning squad in 2017. His match-winning figures of 3 for 19 against India in the final remain among the most memorable performances of his career.
