Pakistan’s traditional cream-coloured Test sweater became a hot topic online during the opening Test against England at Headingley.

The sweater clearly looked oversized, with a loose waist and baggy sleeves that did not sit well on the players.

Fans quickly picked up on the fit, with many questioning why the team was wearing sweaters that appeared several sizes too large.

Reactions poured in across social media throughout the Test. One user wrote, “Only XXL and XXXL are available in it, like it’s a clearance sale.”

Another user wrote, “Mama ne buy ki hogi, 1-2 saal aur chal jaegi” (Mum must have bought it, it will last another year or two).

Others turned their focus to accountability. One user asked, “Who is the supplier of sweaters to Pakistan team?” Another wrote, “The real crime are the oversized sweaters for Pakistan but no one wants to talk about that.”

A comment read, “Why do all their sweaters look so ill-fitting?”

The online chatter around the kit came during a difficult match for Pakistan on the field. Salman Ali Agha’s side, standing in for the injured Babar Azam, lost the first Test by an innings and 103 runs, bowled out for 171 and 135 as England’s pace attack dominated across the three days.

Ollie Robinson took eight wickets in the match to win the player of the match award, with Josh Tongue also finishing with eight wickets.

Pakistan will have a chance to leave all the criticism behind them when the second Test begins at Lord’s on Thursday.
