Islamabad has been ranked 83rd among 401 cities worldwide in the latest safety index, placing the capital ahead of cities including London, Moscow, Toronto, Glasgow and Istanbul, according to the capital police.
The police said that they achieved a 100 percent detection rate in homicide cases reported in the capital this year, with all suspects involved in the cases apprehended.
Cases resolved by the force included the murder of Group Captain Asim Tariq, the H-9 triple murder case, the killing of trader Amir Awan and the murder of Sardar Faheem. Police also reported progress in the Al-Falah Bank robbery case and the recovery of a foreign child.
Property crime in Islamabad fell by 27 percent in 2026 compared with 2025, with 1,499 fewer incidents reported, according to police. Robbery, dacoity, murder and vehicle theft also declined.
The police added that it established specialised SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) and Delta Force units to deal with counter-terrorism operations and emergency situations.
A Margalla Trail Patrol Unit was also set up with mounted, foot and motorcycle squads to provide security to tourists and visitors.
Police said that City Watchers and night patrolling officers were deployed in commercial areas to improve security and prevent crime.
The K-9 unit was established to detect explosives and other hazardous materials, while a Special Protection Unit was formed to provide security to Chinese nationals living in Islamabad.
Under the Special Initiative Police Station project, police stations across the capital are being renovated and upgraded as part of efforts to introduce modern policing and improve services for citizens.
A police service centre was also established in the Diplomatic Enclave to provide services to embassies, diplomats and their staff.
Islamabad police said that it established a Foreign Media Cell to communicate with international media and present the force’s activities abroad.
The Safe City Islamabad system was upgraded with new technology for surveillance, crime prevention and law and order management.
The force also said that the integration of an AI-based hunch lab, a cybersecurity digital sophistication project and a virtual patrolling officer initiative had strengthened its monitoring, intelligence and crime prevention capabilities.
In its crime control operations, police registered more than 14,645 cases and arrested 1,144 suspects involved in drug peddling. They also apprehended more than 887 court absconders, 1,595 habitual criminals and 944 proclaimed offenders.
Police further arrested 1,592 suspects and recovered illegal weapons from them. An online women police station was also launched.
The IGP complaint cell and helpline 1715 were made fully operational to handle citizens’ complaints.
During the year, Islamabad police provided security for four international conferences, 636 foreign and local delegations, 191 VVIP movements, 682 protests and rallies, 636 other major events and 16 joint sessions of the National Assembly and Senate.
