Former England opener Jason Roy has named his three personal favourite cricketers from Pakistan.
Roy recently appeared on a podcast where he named Younis Khan, Babar Azam and Shoaib Akhtar as his all-time favourite Pakistani players.
Roy took a moment to recall his first pick. “Who was it that was at Surrey with me? Batter. I can’t remember. This is bad because he’s the biggest legend. Yunus Khan. Right hander, batsman, just legend of the game,” he said. “I spent a bit of time with him at Surrey and his knowledge of the game was incredible and just a very nice guy.”
For his second pick, Roy named Babar Azam, pointing to their parallel careers and the Pakistan captain’s quality as a person.
“I’ve obviously gone through our careers similar sort of timing-wise and whatnot. He’s an incredible player and a very, very nice guy. Every time I see him, he’s very welcoming and says hello nicely,” he said.
Roy rounded off his list with pace legend Shoaib Akhtar, saying, “I think obviously just incredible firepower and raw pace and aggression. I think you can’t shy away from that. That’s someone you want in your team for sure.”
Roy is currently representing Karachi Kings in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, having joined the franchise as a replacement for Muhammad Waseem, who was called up for UAE national duty.
He holds the record for the highest individual score in PSL history, an unbeaten 145 off 63 balls against Peshawar Zalmi in 2023.
