Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Aalia Neelum has questioned the illegibility of a police FIR [First Information Report] after Superintendent of Police (SP) Abdullah struggled to read or narrate its contents during a contempt of court hearing against Chung police personnel.
According to reports, Justice Neelum was on Wednesday heard a petition filed by citizen Mian Muhammad Jamil, while SP Abdullah appeared before the court on behalf of Chung police.
When the CJ asked cop to read the FIR out loud, he remained unable to do it.
“Why is the FIR not readable? I cannot understand what has been written in it,” the judge said.
“The entire Punjab is suffering; this is the situation everywhere,” she remarked.
Justice Neelum further commented on the handwriting in the FIR, saying that it looked like “flies”.
Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Shahbaz Bhatti, told the court that an LHC single bench had suspended a 2021 sessions court order directing the registration of a FIR against his client.
Despite the single bench’s ruling, the counsel alleged that police registered a case against Jamil unlawfully.
Following the hearing, Justice Neelum summoned the Punjab inspector-general (IG) to appear in person along with the relevant record.
