Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from Lyari, Nabil Gabol, has said he hopes players from Lyari will represent Pakistan at the next FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to reporters during the screening of a knockout match between Brazil and Japan at Lyari International Football Stadium, Gabol said, “There is a lot of talent in Lyari,” adding that the people of the area, often called “Mini Brazil,” hold a deep passion for football.
He pointed to the turnout at the stadium as proof of the passion, with the venue packed with fans while a large number remained outside, unable to get in.
According to Gabol, 12 players have been selected from Lyari who will receive training abroad before joining the Pakistan team, with the aim of representing the country in international events going forward.
Gabol had previously said efforts would be made to host a FIFA World Cup in Lyari in the future.
