NCCIA issues fresh notices to Momina Iqbal, Saqib Chadhar over new digital evidence

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has issued fresh notices to actress Momina Iqbal and PML-N MPA Saqib Chadhar, just hours after an earlier investigation had cleared the lawmaker and his wife in the same case.

According to media reports, the notices were issued after new digital evidence emerged in the case. The agency has also formed a special investigation team to carry out a fresh inquiry in light of the new material.

As per details, an officer at the rank of deputy director will head the special team. The team will review the new digital evidence, along with previous case records and other relevant information.

The team will complete its investigation within a month and submit a report to the director general. Any future legal action in the case will be decided based on the findings of that report.

The update comes shortly after PML-N MPA Saqib Chadhar and his wife, Sumaira, were cleared by an NCCIA investigation team in a sessions court in Lahore. During that hearing, an investigation officer had told the court that the couple’s arrest was not required at this stage, after a joint investigation team formed to conduct a fresh probe found them innocent of the allegations.

Following that statement, Chadhar had withdrawn his interim bail petition, and the court disposed of both his and his wife’s bail applications as withdrawn.

Momina Iqbal’s counsel, Adnan Ehsan, had objected to the report at the time, arguing that the NCCIA changed the investigation team without taking the complainant into confidence and that the new officer cleared the suspects without completing the inquiry.

The case dates back to May 2026, when Momina Iqbal filed a complaint with Lahore’s Chung Police Station and later approached the NCCIA, accusing Chadhar of harassment, blackmail and death threats. She alleged that the lawmaker turned abusive after she refused his marriage proposal, upon learning he was already married.

Chadhar has denied the allegations, stating he ended his relationship with her in August 2025 and calling her complaint false. The case drew wide attention after Momina’s initial social media appeal went viral and reached senior PML-N leadership, including Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
