The internet is buzzing over Razaullah’s dramatic first outing in Test cricket, delivered across the opening two days of the third Test between Pakistan and England at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Razaullah announced himself in style, dismissing England captain Joe Root lbw with the fourth ball of his opening spell after trapping him in front for just eight runs. He struck again late on day one, bowling opener Emilio Gay after the batter had reached a well-made 60.

On day two, he added the wickets of Jamie Smith, out for 69, and Ollie Robinson, who had smashed 50 off 47 balls, to complete a four-wicket haul. He finished the innings with figures of 4 for 148 from 23 overs as England were bowled out for 453, taking a commanding 320-run lead after Pakistan had been dismissed for just 133 in their first innings.

Fans flooded social media with reactions to Razaullah’s fiery spell, with many hailing the arrival of a new fast-bowling talent.

One user wrote, “New sensation in town!”

Another wrote, “The youngster is making his mark.”

One fan wrote, “RAW AND UNFILTERED RAZAULLAH 🥶”

Another stated, “Razaullah, a new star unearthed.”

One comment read: “Impressed by this lad Razaullah – nice to see some raw pace back in a Pakistan 🇵🇰 bowling attack.”

Another simply wrote, “Razaullah, a star is born.”

His economy rate of 6.43 was the second-most expensive on Test debut by a Pakistan bowler sending down at least 20 overs, behind only Zahid Mahmood’s figures against England in 2022.

Razaullah earned his place in the squad through the Pakistan Cricket Board’s mid-series shake-up. After Pakistan lost the first Test at Headingley by an innings and 103 runs, followed by a 194-run defeat at Lord’s, the PCB removed head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and sent seven players home.

Razaullah was one of seven replacements and one of five uncapped players brought into the squad, with reports suggesting that he did not even have a passport when he was first selected, with one arranged urgently before he flew out to join the squad.

His rise through domestic cricket has been rapid. He first appeared at district level for Mardan in the Under-19 competition in 2023, then played regional youth cricket for Abbottabad. He was picked by Sahir Associates for the President’s Trophy Grade II tournament in 2024-25 and led the side to the title, earning promotion to the first-class version of the competition.

He also played as a guest for Peshawar in the 2025-26 Quaid-i-Azam Trophy, scoring a century and a fifty in the same match. In the 2025-26 President’s Trophy, he took 30 wickets in five matches for Sahir Associates, before making his PSL debut for Rawalpindi earlier this year and taking three wickets across two matches.

Pakistan slipped to 52 for 2 in their second innings on day three, leaving them trailing by 268 runs.
