Pakistan’s winless FIH Pro League campaign continued Thursday after Belgium beat the Green Shirts 6-0 at the Belfius Hockey Arena in Wavre, extending Pakistan’s losing run to 11 matches in the nine-team competition.
Pakistan sits at the bottom of the Pro League standings with zero points from 11 games, having conceded 55 goals and scored just 15 across the campaign, leaving them with a goal difference of minus 40.
Thursday’s clash was Pakistan’s second crushing defeat against Belgium within a week as six days earlier, on June 13, Belgium won 7-1 at the same venue. Pakistan had briefly threatened an upset when Rana Waheed Ashraf levelled in the 33rd minute, but Belgium had responded with six unanswered goals to win 7-1.
Earlier, Pakistan entered this season’s Pro League after New Zealand, the 2024-25 Nations Cup winners, declined their place in the competition. As runners-up, Pakistan accepted the invitation, marking their first-ever FIH Pro League campaign. They have faced some of the world’s best sides across legs in Argentina, Australia and Belgium.
Whil Belgium top the Pro League standings with 31 points from 11 matches, Pakistan will next travel to London, where they face India on June 23 and June 26, and England on June 24 and June 27, to conclude their Pro League campaign.
Pakistan will look to carry lessons from this campaign into the FIH Hockey World Cup, which takes place in Belgium and the Netherlands from August 15 to 30.
The Green Shirts qualified for the tournament in March after beating Japan in the World Cup qualifiers held in Ismailia, Egypt.
