The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has posted a public job listing on LinkedIn, announcing its search for a new fielding coach for the men’s national cricket team across all formats.
“The PCB is seeking an experienced and skilled fielding coach to join the Pakistan Men’s National Cricket Team,” the post read.
The vacancy opened up after Shane McDermott stepped down from the fielding coach role in July 2026, having held the position for roughly a year. He was appointed as Pakistan’s all-format fielding coach in July 2025, taking over from Mohammad Masroor, and his first assignment was the three-match T20I series in Bangladesh.
Before joining Pakistan, he spent six years as an assistant fielding coach, split evenly between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The recruitment drive points to the PCB pursuing a more structured and transparent process to fill the role on a long-term basis rather than continuing with an interim arrangement.
The timing has drawn criticism from experts and former cricketers, coming just days after the board sent seven players and two coaches home following Pakistan’s 194-run defeat to England in the second Test at Lord’s. The result left Pakistan trailing 2-0 in the three-match series, having already lost the first Test by an innings and 103 runs.
The PCB has also advertised a separate opening for a senior manager of security and anti-corruption, with a requirement of at least 20 years of service experience in the Pakistan Army, Punjab Police or Sindh Police, with applications due by 5 pm on September 17.
Pakistan will face England in the third and final Test in Birmingham on September 9.
