The Grant-in-Aid Committee of the Punjab government has approved Rs150 million for the Pakistan Hockey Federation in a meeting chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb on the directions of Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz.
Aurangzeb said that the provincial government had prepared short, medium and long-term plans for the revival of hockey in the province.
While schools and colleges across Punjab will host hockey competitions as part of the initiative, players will also receive hockey kits, protective gear, shirts, shoes and stipends.
The committee also approved the hiring of international coaches and master trainers for player development.
“In line with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision, a network of hockey academies will be established across Punjab,” Aurangzeb said during the meeting that also reviewed plans to install modern turf and floodlights at hockey facilities.
The senior minister announced that former national team Olympians will also be appointed as grace mentors to train young players.
