Pakistan captain Sahibzada Farhan broke Indian opener Abhishek Sharma’s record for the most runs in a three-match T20I bilateral series between two full-member nations.
Farhan scored 238 runs against Sri Lanka at an average of 79.33 and a strike rate of 165.27. He hit a half-century in each of the three matches and earned the Player of the Series award. Pakistan named him full-time T20I captain ahead of the series, while the series became his first home assignment in the role.
Abhishek set the previous record earlier this year in India’s three-match home series against Afghanistan. The Indian opener scored 229 runs at an average of 76.33, with one century and one fifty.
Two more batters sit behind them on the list. New Zealand’s Colin Munro scored 223 runs against West Indies in 2017-18, and Australia’s David Warner made 217 against Sri Lanka in 2019.
Farhan opened the series with 89 off 53 balls, including 10 fours and four sixes. His innings helped Pakistan chase down a target of 183 and win by four wickets.
The 30-year-old kept going in the second match, scoring 73 off 44 deliveries. Pakistan posted 215/3, and Sri Lanka managed only 133/7 in their 20 overs. That result gave Pakistan the series.
Farhan made 76 off 47 balls in the final match and lifted Pakistan to a strong total. Sri Lanka chased it down comfortably and won the match, but they could not avoid the series defeat.
