A six-year-old girl has been found dead outside a house in Karachi’s Sachal Ghazi Goth area after her dupatta reportedly became caught in a door while she was playing in the street, police said.

The girl, identified as Amina, was shifted to a hospital after police recovered her body.

According to police, her parents told investigators in an initial statement that she had been playing outside when her dupatta got trapped in a door and tightened around her neck.

Police have launched an investigation to establish how the dupatta became caught in the door and whether the girl’s death was accidental or involved another cause.

The exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report, police said.

In a separate incident earlier this month, the body of seven-year-old Ayesha Gulalai was identified through DNA testing nearly two weeks after it was recovered from a drain in Karachi’s Quaidabad area.

Ayesha had gone missing from outside her home on August 13, while her body was found stuffed inside a sack in a drain in the same locality on August 19. Police and her parents were initially unable to identify the remains.

Police officials confirmed her identity after DNA testing matched the genetic profile obtained from the body with a sample collected from her father.

The identification process also drew questions over delays in the investigation, as the father’s DNA sample was collected on August 27, eight days after the body was recovered.
