Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a couple and their two young children in Skardu, with the woman’s paternal uncle identified as the main suspect, a private news outlet has reported.
The main suspect, identified as Rajab, and his accomplice are in custody, while police are working to trace the remaining suspects. Investigators believe five people were involved in the killings.
Police said that the suspects had fled to Kurram district and gone into hiding following the murder of the family of four.
The victims were identified as Muhammad Aslam, his wife Hania Aslam, their four-year-old son Mehdi and two-year-old daughter Zahra. Police found their bodies inside their house in Madina Colony, Skardu.
According to investigators, the suspects entered the house and killed the family with sharp-edged weapons.
The couple had eloped around six years ago in Karachi before moving to Skardu. Aslam belonged to Skardu while Hania was originally from Parachinar.
Police registered a case on the complaint of Khadim Hussain, the deceased Muhammad Aslam’s brother. The FIR [First Information Report] nominated the woman’s father, brothers and maternal uncle.
The complainant told police that Aslam had previously received serious threats over his marriage.
Earlier, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Asif Mehmood said that investigators were examining all aspects of the incident, including a possible connection between the killings and the couple’s marriage.
He added that authorities would use all available resources to arrest those involved and ensure justice for the affected family.
The killings triggered protests in Skardu, where residents demanded the arrest of the suspects and justice for the victims.
