Two senior Pakistan hockey players have been ruled out of the upcoming Pro Hockey League after sustaining injuries during the training camp, with the National Hockey Stadium’s astroturf reportedly identified as the cause.
Sufyan Khan and Hanan Shahid both picked up injuries during the camp and will miss the tournament as a result.
According to reports, concerns about the turf had already been raised before the injuries occurred. At the start of the final team camp, captain Imad Butt and Sufyan Khan described the turf as slow, and players pointed out the difficulties they were facing while training on it.
They also noted that the astroturf had not been used enough, which affected its pace.
Despite the injuries, no treatment or rehabilitation plan has been put in place for the affected players so far.
