Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad has stood by his criticism of the Pakistani cricket team, insisting that England should win the Test series 3-0 and calling anything less a major failure for the hosts.

Broad made the comments during a recent podcast after receiving criticism from some Pakistan fans over his earlier assessment of the team.

“I don’t know what we can really know about this team, but, as I said on the last podcast, I got a little bit of stick from some Pakistan fans. Pakistan are a poor side & England should win this series 3-0. If they don’t, it would be an absolute disaster. I haven’t changed my opinion on that at all. England should win this Test series 3-0, they’ve simply got a stronger side,” he said.

Broad had made a similar assessment several days earlier, when he described Pakistan as a weaker team and backed England to complete a comfortable series victory.

Broad’s comments came before England dominated Pakistan in the opening Test at Headingley. England won by an innings and 103 runs after bowling Pakistan out for 171 in the first innings and 135 in the second.

The hosts finished the match inside three days and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

The former England pacer is not the only prominent English voice to question Pakistan’s quality. Former England captain Michael Vaughan has also described Pakistan as the weakest team to tour England, while The Telegraph labelled the current side as Pakistan’s worst in 50 years.

Pakistan now face a difficult task at Lord’s, where the second Test will begin on August 27.
