Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja has taken a swipe at Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) high-performance director Aaqib Javed, responding to his recent remarks about the state of Pakistan cricket.
Aaqib had said that the world was laughing at Pakistan following their heavy defeat to England at Lord’s, as he explained the reasoning behind the board’s decision to send seven players and two coaches home mid-series.
“Someone had to take action. The world is laughing at us because we can’t even compete,” he said.
Khawaja responded directly in the comments section of a post carrying Aaqib’s remarks, keeping his reply short and pointed.
“The world is laughing harder now,” he wrote, adding a laughing emoji.
Aaqib’s comments came after Pakistan’s 194-run loss at Lord’s left them 2-0 down in the three-match series, having already lost the first Test by an innings and 103 runs.
The defeat prompted PCB to recall seven players, along with head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul, in a sweeping reshuffle ahead of the final Test.
Pakistan will look to salvage some pride when they face England in the third and final Test at Edgbaston, starting September 9.
