Two young men from Peshawar have been arrested for allegedly raping and killing a 17-year-old girl in a hotel in Swat after administering a poisonous substance to her, police said.

The victim, Ayesha, daughter of Muhammad Farooq and a resident of Abbottabad, had left home on the morning of the incident and did not return. Her family began searching for her and were later informed she was unconscious in the emergency ward of Saidu Sharif Hospital, where she died during treatment.

According to the FIR [First Information Report], filed by her brother Shehryar, the two suspects, Asfandyar son of Muhammad Tariq and Muhammad Muzammil son of Syed Ahmad, took Ayesha to Swat, where they allegedly raped her at a hotel and then gave her a poisonous or intoxicating substance to conceal their crime.

On the immediate notice of Swat District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Umar Khan, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bakhtzada, Rahimabad Police Station SHO Fazal Rahim and his team carried out an operation and arrested both suspects.

Police have registered a case against them under sections pertaining to murder, kidnapping, rape and other related offences.

Police said that initial investigation revealed the suspects took the victim to a hotel on Swat Bypass, where the assault took place. The hotel, identified as Swat Inn, has also been subjected to legal action.

Police are investigating why the hotel administration failed to comply with legal requirements regarding identity documents, registration and other formalities when providing room to the suspects.

Citizens have demanded a complete investigation into the role of the hotel administration, saying strict legal action should be taken against those responsible if negligence is proven.

Further investigation is ongoing and all aspects of the case are being examined, police said.
