England fielding coach Sarah Taylor took time out on Thursday to mentor emerging Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Saad Baig during the third Test between the two sides at Edgbaston, a match set to run until September 13.
Taylor, who played 10 Tests, 126 ODIs and 90 T20Is for England Women during her international career, has served as fielding coach for the England men’s Test team since their three-match home series against New Zealand.
The 37-year-old was seen working with Baig ahead of the start of play on day two at Edgbaston.
In a video shared by the official broadcaster of the series, Taylor gave tips to Baig, who then put them into practice during wicketkeeping drills, earning a nod of approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC) Hall of Famer.
The moment drew praise from cricket fans online. One commenter on the video, posted on Instagram, called it a “real class act all round.”
Baig, who was named Player of the Tournament at the most recent Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Pakistan’s premier first-class competition, was one of seven players added to the Pakistan squad midway through the series against England.
The mid-series changes came after Pakistan lost the first two Tests, going down by an innings and 103 runs and then by 194 runs.
Alongside the playing squad changes, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also removed head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul, replacing them with white-ball head coach Mike Hesson and assistant coach Ashley Noffke.
