A video of Steve Smith being left speechless by a Pakistani blind cricket statistician Sohail Khan is going viral.
In the clip, Sohail walks Smith through a string of defining moments from his career with striking precision.
“You made your T20 International debut for Pakistan at the MCG. Your Test debut was at Lord’s. When you captained Australia for the first time and Michael Clarke was injured, you scored four centuries in that series. In the 2015 World Cup you performed brilliantly. You got dismissed on 199 against West Indies and then you scored a double hundred,” Sohail told him.
The reference to the 199 dismissal points to the 2015 Test series in Kingston, where Smith fell agonisingly short of a double century against West Indies.
The four centuries Sohail mentioned came during the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, when Smith stepped up as captain in Clarke’s absence and dominated the series.
Smith stood visibly stunned throughout. When someone behind the camera told Smith he could ask Sohail any question about himself, Smith had no follow-up. He simply smiled and walked away saying, “Have a good night.”
Sohail Khan has built a reputation as a cricket mind like few others in Pakistan. He has worked across several media platforms including FM 101 and has appeared on various television channels for expert analysis.
Smith is currently in Pakistan representing Multan Sultans in the PSL, where he has scored 236 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 148 and an average of over 28.
