Indian batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi shoved a Sri Lanka A player moments after India A lost a Super Over to the hosts in Dambulla on Monday.
Broadcast footage showed Suryavanshi exchanging words with Sri Lanka A’s Kugathas Mathulan after the final delivery of the tie-breaker, before the confrontation moved toward Vishen Halambage, whom Suryavanshi pushed. Halambage pushed back.
Niroshan Dickwella and Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige stepped in to separate them, while India A’s own players also moved Suryavanshi away. Both sides completed the post-match handshakes, though Suryavanshi remained visibly frustrated as he left the field.
In the Super Over, Sri Lanka A posted 16. Suryavanshi and Suryansh Shedge could only manage 9 in reply, with Mathulan sealing the win off the final ball with a yorker that Suryavanshi failed to make contact with.
The match had ended level after 50 overs, with both teams scoring 265.
Earlier, India A captain Tilak Varma had disputed the umpires’ handling of fading light at the end of the 50-over innings, pushing for a Super Over to be played.
The incident comes as Suryavanshi prepares for a possible senior India debut.
He finished IPL 2026 as the tournament’s leading scorer with 776 runs for Rajasthan Royals, winning the Orange Cap, Most Valuable Player and Emerging Player awards.
If he takes the field, Suryavanshi would become the youngest player to represent India’s senior men’s team, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record.
India play two T20Is against Ireland on June 26 and 28, before a five-match series against England starting July 1.
