Bangladesh have extended their first innings to 380 for seven at the lunch break on day two of the first Test against Pakistan at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, with Mushfiqur Rahim not-out on 71.
Pakistan had a much better morning session with more intent from the pacers, who finally found some life from the surface. Mohammad Abbas was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets in the session.
Overnight batters Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das resumed Bangladesh’s innings and continued to bat soundly in the morning. Rahim reached his 29th Test fifty while Litton played some attractive shots before mistiming a pull to mid-on. Litton fell for 33 off 67 balls.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz came in and played some strokes, including a six over square leg, before hitting one straight to point off Abbas and was dismissed. Taijul Islam also played some strokes before nicking a short ball from Abbas behind to the keeper.
Rahim remains at the crease with the tail and will look to maximise as much as possible in the next session.
On day one, Bangladesh recovered from a shaky start to post 301 for four at stumps.
Pakistan had made an early breakthrough with Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissing Mahmudul Hasan for 8 and Hassan Ali removing Shadman Islam for 13, leaving Bangladesh at 37 for two.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto anchored the innings with a century before falling lbw off Abbas for 101, while Mominul Haque contributed 91 before being dismissed by Noman Ali.
