Pakistani leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed has climbed to the top of the ICC T20I bowling rankings for the first time in his career, edging past Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan.
Abrar now sits at the summit with 736 rating points, one ahead of Rashid Khan, who dropped to second place with 735 points. Australia’s Adam Zampa holds third position with 700 points, followed by England’s Adil Rashid on 695 and Australia’s Nathan Ellis in fifth with 675 points.
Abrar becomes the fifth Pakistan bowler to top the T20I rankings, following Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Imad Wasim and Shahid Afridi.
The 28-year-old made his international debut in December 2022, taking five wickets in the first session on his Test debut against England in Multan, a feat achieved by only four bowlers in Test history. He followed it up with a seven-wicket haul in that same match, instantly establishing himself as Pakistan’s first-choice spinner. He has since played 10 Tests, taking 46 wickets at an average of 34.34, with two five-wicket hauls and a best of 7 for 114.
Abrar made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in November 2024 and has gone on to play 19 ODIs, picking up 35 wickets at an average of 21.51, with a best of 4 for 27.
His T20I debut came against New Zealand in April 2024. In 38 matches since, he has taken 52 wickets at an average of 17.36, with a best bowling figure of 4 for 9.
