Dian Forrester, the South African all-rounder who represented RawalPindiz in PSL 11, has landed an IPL deal after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) signed him as an injury replacement for Jamie Overton, who has been ruled out of IPL 2026 with a right thigh injury.
Forrester joined the debutant Pindiz franchise for Rs6 million at the players auction in February. Across six matches, he scored 132 runs at an average of 44 and a strike rate of 171.42, and also claimed two wickets, both coming against Islamabad United. CSK will pay him INR 7.5 million for the remainder of the IPL campaign.
The signing triggered a familiar conversation online. Several internet users pointed to the pattern of players using the PSL as a launchpad to bigger franchises, with one fan writing, “Play PSL and get picked in the IPL.”
Another put it bluntly: “Another talent stolen.” A third reflected, “Probably his first and last PSL for a while,” referencing how players tend to move on once IPL doors open.
Some drew comparisons to Harry Brook, Tim Seifert and others who featured in the PSL before attracting IPL interest, with one fan writing: “Like other players, he will forget PSL forever.”
Forrester is far from an isolated case. Several players from PSL 2026, including Luke Wood, Tim Seifert, Kyle Jamieson, Jordan Cox, Ben Dwarshuis, Jason Holder and Finn Allen, earned IPL deals for this season, strengthening the argument that the PSL serves as one of the strongest talent identification platforms in world cricket, even as it continues losing those talents to a far wealthier league.
It is worth noting that Forrester plays for Joburg Super Kings (JSK) in the SA20 league, the sister franchise of CSK, which makes the move a natural one within the Super Kings setup.
He has represented South Africa in five T20 internationals.
