The official social media account of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), BJP4India, faced backlash on social media after it shared a video of a highway in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, on X, using it to showcase road development in India. The post, captioned “This is the new India. Which doesn’t just dream, but also realises them,” has since been deleted.
The video was originally created by Pakistani content creator Northern Vibesss, which has 146,000 followers. After the BJP4India post began circulating online, Northern Vibesss took a screenshot of the post from the BJP’s X account and shared it on an Instagram story, writing:
“When did the Baltistan highway become part of India. They’ve stolen my videos.”
In a separate Instagram story, he wrote, “Dear Indian friends, please don’t trust these people, they show you something and you believe it.”
The post drew strong reactions from Pakistani social media users after it was identified as footage from Gilgit-Baltistan. One user said, “The audacity of them to post this while the students are hurt and bleeding because of their police brutality.”
Another said, “Even their propaganda has to be borrowed from Pakistan. Modi’s incompetence is next level bro.”
Several users pointed to the specific region shown in the video, with one commenting, “Baltistan’s roads seem better than Ladakh’s. Maybe that’s why the BJP handle reposts pictures from Balti Insta reels.”
Another said, “Oh wow! That’s a new low using photos from Pakistan for propaganda,” and added that BJP had “nothing to show as their achievements” beyond what they described as hate speech against minorities.
Other reactions included, “India has no credit concerns because they no longer have that feature,” and “They are losing the plot in quick speed,” while several users noted that the post had since been taken down, with one writing, “BJP hatao Hindustan bachao.”
