The Teenage Italian Cyclist Sara Piffer Dies in Tragic Training Ride Accident
Trentino talented cyclist Sara Piffer tragically passed away after being hit by a car at Mezzocorona, Trentino. The tragic accident occurred at approximately 11:30 AM on 24 January 2025. She would have turned twenty this coming October.
After her debut at Velo Sport Mezzocorona, Sara Piffer started competing for Mendelspeck. She also began her racing career in Palù Di Giovo, Cembravalley. Last year, she won gold at the Marche region in Corridonia. Her victory was especially noteworthy given the bronze medal she earned for placing second in the Trentino time trial in Verla/Maso Roncador.
The accident occurred on Via Cesare, Batti, which connects the regions of Mezzocorona and Mezzolomba. According to reports, a seventy-year-old man was driving the car in the opposite direction when he hit Sara Piffer. It’s worth noting that her brother was also with them.
Though the 118 helicopter came to the scene and efforts were made to resuscitate the young lady, Sara Piffer was pronounced dead before getting to the hospital. The local police of Piana Rotaliana also intervened on the scene. Meanwhile, the Trento Prosecutor's Office opened a case for road homicide and is already doing the necessary investigations.
