Renowned cardiologist Dr Hasnat Khan, known internationally for his relationship with the late Diana, has returned to Pakistan to head one of Lahore’s upcoming cardiac care centres.

As per the details, Dr Khan has been appointed by the chief executive officer (CEO) and dean of the newly established Jinnah Institute of Cardiology in Lahore, where final preparations are underway before its official opening.

The institute is expected to become one of the city’s major centres for heart treatment, with authorities confirming that recruitment for medical and administrative staff has already started.

Born in Jhelum in 1958, Dr Khan received his early medical education from King Edward Medical University (KEMU) before moving to the United Kingdom (UK) for advanced training and practice.

He later built his career at London’s Royal Brompton Hospital, one of the leading specialist hospitals for heart and lung diseases, where he worked for several years as a cardiac surgeon.

Dr Khan came into international focus in 1995 when Diana visited the Royal Brompton Hospital during a patient visit and met him there. Their relationship later drew global media attention and remained one of the most talked-about chapters of Diana’s personal life.

Princess Diana was reported to have called him “Mr Wonderful”, a nickname that often appeared in international media coverage of their relationship.
