Sports journalist Syed Yahya Hussaini has narrated the shocking story of a Pakistani cricketer who lost his spot on the national team after a member of the management mistranslated communication between the player and a foreign coach.
Hussaini made the revelation during a recent television appearance while discussing the persistent language barrier problem within the Pakistani cricket setup.
“Just yesterday, I was at an event where someone told me an interesting story. I won’t mention the player’s name, but it’s related to this whole language and communication issue,” he said.
According to Hussaini, the cricketer had just become a father and was in high spirits when he went to speak with a foreign head coach.
“The player wanted to tell the coach that he was feeling great and would perform really well that day,” he said, adding that the cricketer could, however, not communicate directly because of the language barrier.
A member of the team management stepped in to translate the conversation.
“But while interpreting, he ended up telling the coach that the player didn’t want to play the match,” Hussaini said, adding that the cricketer was dropped for said match after the conversation.
