The billionaire technology entrepreneur Elon Musk is seen giving a couple of Nazi salutes while addressing an official event for supporters of US President Donald Trump. Standing on stage at the Capital One Arena in Washington, Musk placed one hand on his chest before extending the other in salute.
After Elon Musk made the gesture at President Donald Trump’s inauguration parade, the famous figure became an object of criticism and debate. The internet lost it with one X (formerly Twitter) user saying, “Did I just see Elon Musk do the Nazi salute three times in live time?” Another user asked, “What was that salute by Elon Musk?”
The controversy surrounding this gesture has overshadowed Elon Musk’s political relations and appearances. Many eagerly expect a positive response from the man or those representing him. They continue to argue on behalf of Elon Musk’s already long list of controversial events, separating social media yet again and placing other commentators in a position where his actions must be dissected further.
However, the Anti-Defamation League says that in Germany from 1933 to 1945, the Nazi salute “was frequently done along with chanting or shouting ‘Heil Hitler’ or ‘Sieg Heil.’” Neo-Nazis and other white supremacist organizations have continued the practice since World War Two. So, it has continued to be the most used white supremacist hand gesture globally.
The ADL was later quoted saying, “It’s a New Day, Yet So Many Are On Edge.” In their own words, these are their arguments regarding any allegation made against Elon Musk and the sign they have termed the zig emoji.
Looking back, Elon Musk appears to have become more sociopathic in his gestures. He made an inappropriate wave of his right hand in a moment of euphoria rather than a Nazi salute. Still, we are careful that people are cautious. This is the timmer side of the issue, so all of this skepticism can be put to rest for now. Moreover, we hope that good things are beginning.
