Pakistan’s former national badminton champion Palwasha Bashir has won the women’s singles title in the 35+ age group at the Canadian Masters Championship.
Bashir defeated Canada’s top-seeded player Anna Rice in the final to claim the title.
Speaking after her victory, Bashir said that the tournament featured over 300 players from different countries. “I am proud to have won the Canadian Masters Championship title,” she said.
Bashir also addressed what her entry into the Masters category means for her career. “Competing in the Masters category does not mean my open category career is over,” she said.
Hailing from Karachi, Bashir won her first national women’s singles and doubles titles in 2009.
She also won a bronze medal at the 2010 South Asian Games in Dhaka and has represented Pakistan at the 2014 Asian Games and the 2014 as well as 2018 Commonwealth Games.
