Journalist Naeem Hanif on Saturday appeared to victim-blame 17-year-old social media influencer Sana Yousaf, who was shot dead in Islamabad on June 2 by a man whose proposals she repeatedly rejected.
"Suspect [Kaka] is a social media expert and Sana Yousaf had been getting help from him for the past six to eight months to promote her social media accounts,” Hanif claimed in a podcast on YouTube channel RNN TV.
The journalist further said that as Hayat was assisting in promoting Sana’s social media account, they exchanged phone numbers.
He then said that Sana was killed by her “own mistake” provided that she was sharing locations on TikTok continuously. He added that when the suspect confessed his love to Sana, she then decided to get rid of him.
Additionally, Hanif said that on Sana’s birthday (May 29), the suspect reached Islamabad to contact her; however, she did not give any attention to him.
“When you are posting every second of your location on TikTok, then your location is not secret,” the journalist opined.
Omar Hayat aka Kaka, 22, murdered 17-year-old Sana Yousaf at her house in G-13. He was arrested from Faisalabad within 20 hours of the incident. The victim’s mobile phone and the murder weapon were also recovered from his possession.
“The ruthless killer took the phone with him after the murder to destroy evidence. In order to apprehend the accused, raids were conducted at over 11 locations in three cities. The accused is a 22-year-old unemployed man who repeatedly attempted to contact the victim. Upon her refusal to respond, he committed the murder,” said Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi during a presser on June 3.
He added that the killer had tried to reach out to Sana at least seven to eight times.
The police chief stated that Sana repeatedly rejected the boy's offers to become friends. She also rejected his marriage proposals.
“On May 29, which was Sana's birthday, he tried contacting her. He tried for seven to eight hours to get in touch with her, including going to her home,” the IG said.
Ali Nasir Rizvi gave out other details of the murder, including that Sana was killed by two gunshots around 5 pm on June 2. The gun that killed her and her iPhone were recovered by the police from Kaka's possession.
