Former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has expressed deep frustration over his country’s Test series whitewash against Bangladesh, saying that his interest in cricket has completely faded.
“My interest in cricket has finished. Now I only come for work because I get paid. If players give this kind of performance, what can you do,” Akhtar said.
The Rawalpindi Express was equally blunt about Pakistan’s leadership, saying no one in the current Test setup deserves the captaincy. “Including Shan Masood, no one is worthy of becoming Test captain,” he said.
On white-ball leadership, Akhtar said Fakhar Zaman should have been given the captaincy and the time to prove himself.
“If you wanted to make a white-ball captain, you should have gone for Fakhar Zaman. You should not have removed him as opener or as captain and given him time, then results would have been better,” he opined.
He also weighed in on Shaheen Shah Afridi’s captaincy role, saying that Afridi should have been made T20 captain rather than ODI captain.
Bangladesh beat Pakistan by 78 runs in the second Test to complete a 2-0 whitewash.
Bangladesh had also beaten Pakistan in a Test series on Pakistani soil previously, making this the second consecutive time they have swept Pakistan in Test cricket.
