Pakistani batter Kamran Ghulam has said that he remains confident about his abilities but feels that he has not received enough opportunities at the international level.
Ghulam, who is representing Rawalpindi in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, spoke about his career, recent form and ambitions for a comeback to the national side in an interview.
“I feel I haven’t been given the chances I should have been given,” he said. “I have performed in every format. I am playing domestic cricket continuously — just pick up the record and see for yourself, my performances are consistent.”
The 30-year-old has played six Test matches and 11 One-Day Internationals for Pakistan and continues to push for selection through domestic and franchise performances.
He said he now sees the PSL as a key platform to strengthen his case for a return.
“After the National T20 Cup, I will make a comeback by performing in the PSL,” he stated.
Ghulam also spoke about the demands of modern cricket, saying batters must adapt to faster scoring rates while still maintaining the ability to build innings.
“In modern-day cricket, the better your strike rate, the better it is for the team,” he said. “But there is always a need in the playing XI for a player who can build an innings. I gained good form from the National T20 Cup, and now my start to the PSL has been good.”
Rejecting the idea that he is limited to red-ball cricket, he pointed to his performances across formats.
“My performance has been good not only in red-ball cricket but also in white-ball cricket. Wherever I have been given a chance, I have performed,” he said.
He added that he has worked on expanding his batting range to match modern requirements.
“Cricket has advanced. The demand of modern-day cricket is that you have many shots — batters should know every kind of shot. That will serve them well going forward.”
Ghulam said he has focused heavily on improving his strike rate and overall approach in recent months.
“I am working very hard for modern-day cricket, and I am ready for it. Recently, my strike rate has been 200. I know that if I perform, I will earn my place in the national team. That is my focus,” he said.
