Israeli forward Saied Abu Farchi was sent off after celebrating his equalizer against Austria by grabbing the corner flag and mimicking a gun-firing motion.
The incident happened during Israel’s 3-1 loss in their Nations League match on Thursday at the Raiffeisen Arena in Linz.
Austria took an early lead when Romano Schmid converted a penalty before halftime. Abu Farchi pulled Israel level in the 55th minute with a header, then ran to the corner flag and performed the gesture in celebration.
The referee had already booked him four minutes earlier, so the celebration earned him a second yellow card and reduced Israel to ten men.
Austria took advantage of the extra man late in the match. Phillipp Mwene restored their lead in the 90th minute, finishing off a cross from Paul Wanner.
Sasa Kalajdzic added a third goal in stoppage time with a finish from close range, sealing the 3-1 win for the hosts.
