New Zealand cricketer Devon Conway has praised Islamabad United teammate Sameer Minhas after the young batter’s impressive performances in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11.
During a recent interview, Conway called the 18-year-old his “new favorite batter” and said that he has not noticed any weakness in his game so far.
“My opening partner, Sameer Minhas. My new favorite batter,” Conway said.
“The way he’s been in the middle has been awesome. Just calm natured. His timing, his ability to clear the ropes. He’s so young and it just looks like he has all the shots against pace and spin. I haven’t seen a team pick up a weakness yet,” he said.
Conway also praised the youngster’s temperament and consistency throughout the tournament.
“I haven’t seen a weakness personally from the non-striker’s end either. He’s kept it pretty simple. He’s just played some good cricket shots, put bowlers under pressure game in, game out. The volume of runs that he scored for us and the way he’s done it, he’s been my favorite by far,” he added.
The Conway-Minhas opening pair played a key role for Islamabad United during PSL 11. The duo produced several important partnerships at the top of the order and helped United maintain strong momentum in the tournament.
Against Karachi Kings, Minhas and Conway added 93 runs for the opening wicket in Islamabad United’s successful chase of 151. Minhas scored 58 off 36 balls, while Conway also completed a half-century in the eight-wicket win.
Minhas also played a match-winning knock against Rawalpindiz, smashing 70 off 36 deliveries and earning the player of the match award as Islamabad United chased down 157 comfortably.
Conway delivered important performances for Islamabad United during the campaign. He scored an unbeaten 59 against Lahore Qalandars in a dominant nine-wicket victory.
Islamabad suffered a thrilling defeat against Hyderabad Kingsmen in the second qualifier.
