Amid the ongoing series of scathing criticism of Pakistan’s poor performance in England, journalist Piers Morgan has asked Greenshirts to “grow a pair” as he flies back early from his holiday to be at Lord’s.
Pakistan’s tour of England has descended into something close to freefall as after losing the first Test by an innings and 103 runs, the second day of the second test produced their most abject batting performance yet.
Bowled out for 110 in 37.2 overs at Lord’s, Pakistan handed England a 180-run first-innings advantage and added to criticism by experts and fans alike.
Morgan, a lifelong cricket fan, addressed Pakistani batters directly on social media. “Memo to Pakistan’s batsmen: I am flying back early from my St Tropez holiday to be at Lord’s tomorrow and Sunday. I NEED YOU ALL TO GROW A PAIR, PLEASE,” he wrote.
His frustration reflected a wider mood around the game after such a one-sided performance from the visitors.
Earlier, Pakistan made a strong start with the ball at Lord’s after winning the toss and opting to field. Mohammad Abbas led the attack with four wickets, while Mohammad Ali claimed three as England lost their top order.
The hosts eventually reached 290, following which Pakistan’s reply collapsed in familiar fashion. Abdullah Shafique fell just before lunch, and the rest of the batting order folded quickly against England’s seam attack.
The Greenshirts were bowled out for 110, leaving England with a commanding 180-run lead heading into the third day.
