Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif is expected to travel to Saudi Arabia within the next two days after receiving an invitation from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, a private media outlet has reported.
During his stay in Riyadh, the prime minister is likely to engage in discussions covering regional and global developments, reflecting ongoing coordination between the two countries.
The visit comes shortly after talks held in Islamabad between US (United States) and Iranian officials, which continued from Saturday into early Sunday.
The meeting marked the first direct engagement between the two sides in over a decade and the most senior-level contact since Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution.
The dialogue took place days after a ceasefire was initiated earlier in the week, aimed at halting weeks of conflict across the Gulf that disrupted energy supplies and raised concerns about further escalation.
No agreement emerged from the discussions, which lasted nearly 21 hours. The US military later announced plans to enforce a blockade on maritime traffic linked to Iranian ports and coastal regions, placing the ceasefire under strain.
Talks in Riyadh are also expected to cover financial cooperation, particularly after Saudi Arabia and Qatar announced $5 billion in support for Pakistan.
The prime minister will be joined by Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is also likely to be part of the delegation, depending on the conclusion of his ongoing visit to the US.
Despite the ceasefire holding and Iran halting attacks on US-linked sites in Gulf states, Pakistan has deployed fighter jets and additional military personnel to Saudi Arabia under an existing defence arrangement.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a mutual defence agreement in September 2025, under which both sides committed to respond collectively to any aggression targeting either country.
