Pakistani Test captain Shan Masood is reportedly considering resignation after Bangladesh defeated Green Shirts in both matches of the two-Test series.
In the second Test played in Sylhet, Pakistan fell 78 runs short chasing a target of 437, finishing their innings at 358 and handing Bangladesh another historic series win on home soil.
When asked about his future as captain during the post-match press conference, Masood, who also led the team as it lost the 2024 Test series against Bangladesh, said, “I don’t want to criticise or praise anyone. Why we are not doing well in Test cricket… I will sit down with the board and discuss this.”
As far as the captaincy is concerned, he added, it is for the board to decide.
Masood also issued an apology to fans. “I understand the emotions of the people and can only offer my sincere apologies for the loss, but we can’t look at things emotionally and have to find a way to do well in Test matches.”
Despite the defeat, Masood maintained that Pakistan had opportunities in both matches.
“It’s never good to lose games. In both matches we had significant chances, but we need to reflect on where we lost the game in batting, bowling and fielding if we want to move forward as a side,” he said.
The skipper also praised the pitch conditions, describing them as fair to both sides. “The pitches were very good Test tracks. They were good for batting and also had it in them for both spinners and pacers.”
Masood, 36, took over as Pakistan’s Test captain in December 2023.
Under his leadership, Pakistan have played 16 Tests, winning 4 and losing 12, a record that has drawn significant criticism from fans and pundits alike.
