Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has reached an agreement to join Chilean club Colo Colo, the club confirmed on Friday.
The move comes after a standout performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the 40-year-old helped lead Cape Verde to their first-ever appearance in the tournament’s knockout stage.
Colo Colo president Aníbal Mosa confirmed the agreement to media. “We have reached an agreement with him,” he said. He added that the goalkeeper would soon head to Chile to complete the formalities. “In the coming days, he will travel to Chile, undergo the standard medical examinations, and then be presented here at the Estadio Monumental,” he said.
Mosa praised the goalkeeper’s ability and acknowledged the commercial value the signing brings to the club. He said Vozinha “has what it takes to be here at Colo Colo,” while noting that the deal “has marketing bonuses.” He added that Vozinha “is coming off a very strong World Cup” and said the club sees the move as a chance to raise its profile. “We are also interested in the fact that it puts our club on the global radar,” he said.
Vozinha entered the World Cup as a free agent after his contract with Portuguese second division side Chaves came to an end. He had reportedly drawn interest from Inter Miami and other clubs before settling on Colo Colo. Local reports indicate the deal runs through the end of 2027.
At Colo Colo, Vozinha will play under Argentine coach Fernando Ortiz as the club prepares for the upcoming Copa Libertadores. His arrival puts the future of current goalkeeper Fernando de Paul in question, while forwards Maxi Romero and Javier Correa remain part of the squad. His most high-profile new teammate will be Arturo Vidal.
Born Josimar Jose Evora Dias, Vozinha adopted his nickname early in his career to avoid sharing a name with a teammate, drawing on a childhood nickname given to him while he was raised by his grandparents.
Vozinha was named to FIFA’s team of the tournament after recording 18 saves across four matches, including 15 against the two teams that went on to reach the final. His performances included a clean sheet in a scoreless draw against eventual champions Spain, making him the oldest goalkeeper to record a shutout on his World Cup debut.
After this, his Instagram following jumped from around 50,000 to nearly 30 million, as his displays against Spain and later Argentina turned him into one of the most talked-about players of the competition.
Cape Verde followed the draw with Spain with a 2-2 result against Uruguay and a goalless draw with Saudi Arabia. Their World Cup run ended in the round of 32, where they lost 3-2 in extra time to Lionel Messi’s Argentina.
