International Cooperation Against Drug Dealers: Colombia's Key Achievements

Colombia is an important country in South America. It remains the centre for important events in recent days. In these incidents, International operations against drugs and tragic accidents are included.

International Combing Operation Against Narcotics

In November 2024, 62 countries led a combing operation against drug dealers in Colombia leadership, that lasted one or two weeks. During this operation, 1400 metric tons of drugs were seized. In which 225 tons of cocaine and 1000 tons of cannabis were included. These drugs were hidden in semi-submarines that were Smuggled through sea routes. By the success of this operation, drug dealers lost almost 8.5 billion dollars.

Tourist’s Bus Accident

On January 4, 2025, a tourist bus fell into a 160-foot-deep ditch in southwestern Colombia on the Pan American Highway. In this accident, 13 people were died and 28 were injured. The bus was going from the city of Cali to the Ecuadorian border. The injured were shifted to the nearby hospital, while the traffic police of Colombia were busy collecting the passengers’ details.

New routes of drug smuggling

Drug dealers used the new route of southwest Clapperboard Island to smuggle cocaine into Australia in the Pacific Ocean. Semi-submarines that are half under the water and half outside were also used for this purpose. Catching these submarines is almost impossible in the open sea but the campaign was successful with the cooperation of 62 countries.

Global drug production and the role of Colombia

According to the United Nations, yearly 2700 tons of cocaine are produced in the world. And in Colombia, yearly 670 tons of cocaine are confiscated which is a major part of global production. In a recent operation confiscation of 225 tons of cocaine is a big setback for drug dealers.

International cooperation and future challenges

The reason for the success of this operation was the Collaboration of 62 countries. More than 400 people were arrested during the operation, who were involved in illegal arms and human trafficking. This success helped to uncover new smuggling routes for drug dealers.

America- Colombia Improvement in relationships

According to recent news, an important agreement has been decided between America and Colombia under which America has suspended certain trade charges on imports from Colombia.
In return of this agreement, Colombia has assured the US administration that they will cooperate with the return of their citizens who went to the United States illegally.
According to the White House, the agreement will strengthen economic and political ties between both of these countries.
